Museum Brands: Not an official re-branding but an iconic treatment of Lopez Memorial Museum (@Lopez_Muse on Twitter) as advertised in Business World Magazine, July 2, 2012.

I utilized the iconic painting of the 19th Century Master Juan Luna’s Espana y Filipinas. The allegory of Spain and the Philippines is framed inside the shape of the shield from the Coat of Arms of the Philippines at the turn of the 20th Century.

The calligraphic figure Mother Spain is pointing at is the ancient Philippine script called ‘Baybayin’ of the initials ELF, Eugenio Lopez Foundation.

Rizal, Cinema and the Filipino Nation

Internationally acclaimed filmmaker, author, film teacher and historian Nick Deocampo will talk about “Rizal, Cinema and the Filipino Nation” in a lecture presented by the Lopez Memorial Museum in cooperation with Anvil Publishing on June 30(Saturday) from 2-4pm.

In commemoration of the national hero’s birth month, the lecture will trace the beginnings of Philippine cinema signaled by the first feature film on Jose Rizal,  and how the history of local cinema has been further enriched by films about him and his works. It will also ask viewers of these films (and future films on Rizal) to compare and contrast the sense of nation and identity sought to be established by Rizal’s works and the films, with that of today’s views on these.

The lecture fee of P300 includes his latest book SineGabay: A Film Study Guidewhich is the first major publication on film literacy. This book is a valuable instrument in his advocacy in developing a more literate Filipino audio-visual industry and its audience.

Deocampo has more than 20 years experience in film exhibition and festivals, his documentaries have broken new grounds in ushering a new movement in the Philippines’ alternative filmmaking. As a member of UNESCO’s Philippine Memory of the World Committee, he helps promote awareness of the world’s documentary heritage including film. He is a recipient of various international grants and fellowships. Currently he teaches at the University of the Philippines and is the director of the Center for New Cinema, a company fostering film literacy through the publication of film books and the production of educational films.
