Apotheosis of Andres Bonifacio
Today we commemorate the 116th Death Anniversary of Gat Andres Bonifacio. He and his brother Procopio were executed in Maragondon after a trial in 1897.

In Art heroic figures are often celebrated in an allegorical manner referred to as ‘apotheosis’ which is the elevation of a dead leader (often one who was assassinated and/or martyred) to a kind of superhuman charismatic figure.
DAMAS ROMANAS, 1882. (Juan Luna)
The altar to the left is called Lararium which is found in most houses where the Romans make their offerings to the gods and their ancestor spirits. The dogs are attendants to the virgin goddess Diana, while the doves are sacred to Venus. One can say that the two Damas represent the two goddesses. - Eric Agoncillo Ambata
Das große flaggenbuch!
How do you say goodbye to a book?
This rare German Flaggenbuch of the Nazi Period has been in my ‘care’ for almost close to 8 years. An invaluable reference to my study of vexillology and heraldry.
Now we have to part ways for the owner has sent its summons Huginn and Muninn; Geri and Freki. I love this book notwithstanding its provenance/publication.
A dutiful son I went with my folks on a Good Friday road trip, ‘Visita Iglesia’. Took it as a study in hagiography and church art :-)

The current view of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is that the symbol “reinforces the idea” that the Olympic Movement is international and welcomes all countries of the world to join. As can be read in the Olympic Charter, the Olympic symbol represents the union of the five regions of the world and the meeting of athletes from throughout the world at the Olympic Games. However, no continent is represented by any specific ring. Prior to 1951, the official handbook stated that each colour corresponded to a particular continent: blue for Europe, yellow for Asia, black for Africa, green for Australia and Oceania and red for America (North and South considered as a single continent); this was removed because there was no evidence that Coubertin had intended it (the quote above was probably an afterthought).
